Internships
All students are required to complete a 100-hour professional internship as part of their training. The section below provides detailed information about available opportunities, application procedures, and credit recognition.
Each student within the program should mandatorily complete a professionalizing internship for 100 hours provided by programs, organizations, and projects that are able to offer internships on the basis of conventions stipulated with the Master Program. The list of those available for the a.a. 2025/26 are listed in the tables below. The completion of the 100 hours gives the right to acquire the 4 credits of the Field Archaeology Training / Material Culture Laboratory listed as mandatory in the study plan.
Students should apply for the internship already in the first year; this is the preferable time for the internship but achieving the required completion of the 100 hours by the end of the second year is also accepted.
There is a list of excavation projects, labs, museums and other institutions that are either part of the Master Program or have a convention with the Master Program. Each internship option has a referent faculty. When applying, STUDENTS SHOULD ADDRESS THE REFERENT FACULTY LINKED TO EACH OPTION and FIRST THING they must indicate whether they have already fulfilled the requirement of 100 hours of internship or not. Faculty will give priority to students who did not already complete the mandatory 100 hours of internship.
If existing, costs for travel, board, and lodging deriving from internships at Museums are entirely on the student. Costs for travel, board and lodging deriving from internship at archaeological projects vary from project to project and are defined each year by the faculty responsible for the project
At the completion of the internship, students need to request the record of completion of the internship to the legal representative of the internship and the MedArch referent (if not the same as the representative).
Starting from a.y. 2025/2026 in every exam session of the year there will also be dates for Field Archaeology Training / Material Culture Laboratory for registering the internships. Records of completion of the internship need to be sent by email to the coordinator of the MA program up to a week before the date of the exam in order the internship to be registered and the credits received at that given date.
- Besides the internship opportunities listed here below, students may try to apply to other forms of internships or work placements, even if atypical compared to those listed, also abroad, in particular through the Erasmus Traineeship program. These will require to be evaluated and accredited by the Teaching Council, provided they are consistent with the areas of relevance to the Master's Degree Course.
