One year after the passing of Marco De Pietri, on 12 May 2025, his colleagues in the Department of
Humanities wish to remember him with affection and gratitude, recalling his human and scholarly
qualities and the deep connection that bound him to the University of Pavia.
Marco received his BA in Humanities, his MA in Classics and Ancient Near Eastern Studies, and
his PhD in History from the University of Pavia, with a dissertation devoted to the relations
between Egypt and Anatolia in the second and first millennia BCE. In the following years, he
continued to collaborate with the Department in research and teaching activities, distinguished by
his scholarly rigour, the breadth of his interests, and the generosity with which he contributed to thelife of the academic community.
His memory remains vivid among colleagues, friends, and students, together with our gratitude for
the contribution he made to our academic community. The volume currently in preparation, which
will collect some of his writings, is also intended to preserve and honour the value of his work.
